I am guilty of the same process - rebuying the CD versions of albums I’ve owned for decades…remastered, remixed, but for me it was the unreleased tracks that would be added to the CDs (I rationalized that the vinyl only could contain 40 minutes, but now “The Who Sell Out” is over an hour long - wow!). Of course some of the additions weren’t great, but when it came to my favorites, I was a completist! I also played a lot of music in my class, and we treated lyrics like poetry, because they are!
Great piece John. Another remastered Band release that came out in 2001 is Moondog Matinee. The original was released in 1973 consisting primarily of R & B covers from the heart of the South. The Great Pretender, Ain't Got No Home, A Change is Gonna Come and Lee Dorsey's Holy Cow. Those were terrific covers of great songs that their audience deserved to hear and the reissue continued in the same vein with outtakes of Crying Heart Blues, Didn't It Rain and What Am I Living For as well as a studio version of Endless Highway. Charles Dickens was a master salesman of classic stories and the people at Capitol Records were masters of repackaging classic songs.

I didn’t get the “Moondog Matinee” re-release but I did get “The Band” (liked the bonus tracks) and “Stage Fright” which had a great live show from England, I think it was, which is terrific. They get you with those damn outtakes, don’t they? The Who have repackaged so much stuff, it’s incredible. I’ll tell you, looking through CDs, so many of them, I already had the album…what was I thinking? hahahaha Thanks for the comment. Glad you liked it. And I’ll tell you, I miss Sean.
