Hi friends! I hope you don’t mind me sharing a few details of the life of the retired author. I’m making a couple road trips to promote “Diamond Duels”! Like a big shot! Haha.. I sort of feel as if we’re all in this together, hope you don’t mind my sharing.
Here’s some great news: “Diamond Duels” will be on sale at The Baseball Hall of Fame Bookstore in Cooperstown, New York! How cool is that?
Tomorrow, I’ll be a guest on the Jeff Cameron Show on WFLA. That’ll be fun!
On Friday, I’m flying to Pittsburgh, the city where my son had the most incredible month of his baseball career, playing for the Pittsburgh Pirates in July of 2021! He got 12 hits in his first 19 at bats — a record for the start of a Pirate career, he threw a shutout inning against the Atlanta Braves in the same game where he got four hits (shoulda bought a lottery ticket that day) and was fourth in the National League in batting that month! What a start!
I was invited by the Forbes Field SABR (Society of American Baseball Research) to give a presentation on “Diamond Duels” at the Heinz Theater in downtown Pittsburgh on Saturday morning. I’ve never done an in-person presentation in a strange city so that will be a lot of fun.

I created a special page to thank the city of Pittsburgh for how they welcomed John
I’ll kick off the “tour” with a book signing Friday night at 7 p.m. at the Barnes & Noble at the Waterworks Mall on Freeport Road. (I’d have done it at first base in PNC Park but the Pirates are in Cincinnati.)
Then on Saturday morning at the Heinz, I’ll be part of an all-day celebration of baseball with the SABR group. If you are a baseball fan, I invite you to join SABR, (Society of American Baseball Research). It’s been a blast! I’ll have books to sign — if you’re interested. Hope so. It’s perfect for baseball fans, I think.
The following Saturday, May 24, I’ll be doing a book signing in my old hometown of Nashua, New Hampshire, the city where I went to high school and college and was Sports Editor of the Nashua Telegraph for seven years. That’ll be so exciting to see some old friends and maybe a few of my old baseball teammates.
When I get back to Tallahassee, I’ll be wrapping up my local book tour on May 31, Saturday afternoon 12-to-2 p.m. book signing at the Barnes & Noble for all my books - “Diamond Duels” and “Last Time Out” and “Bob Dylan: A Descriptive, Critical Discography and Filmography.” Thanks to Ward for his help and support. Stop by!
At the end of June 25-29, here’s another cool thing, I’ll be presenting my Harry Heilmann chapter from “Diamond Duels” at the National SABR Convention in Dallas as well as a poster of my chapter on “The Deception of Whitey Ford” — his starts vs. White Sox vs. Red Sox, very odd — 73 vs. Chicago, 42 vs. Boston.
So you can see, the old writer will be busy over the next couple of months. I’m still tapping away at my Neil Young book, trying to keep up with my great Substack readers and staying out of trouble, following the Seminoles, the Red Sox and I hope, my son John, once he settles on a team. I really appreciate all the kind words and encouragement. Wish me luck in Pittsburgh! Nogo goes on the road….

You’ll “Knock ‘Em Dead” on this tour Nogo. It’s right up your alley and you know exactly what you’re talking about. Really looking forward to the 24th !
That is so awesome, John! Congratulations! 🎉🎈🎊
