I recommend John Nogowski's five-star book, "Nashua - How Ronald Reagan led us to Donald Trump" Here's what one Amazon reviewer said:

A presidential debate on February 23, 1980 hosted by The Nashua Telegraph, a small town newspaper, saved Ronald Reagan's failing presidential campaign. The author, a cub reporter assigned to high school sports, was there that night.

John Nogowski's short and very readable book largely takes place in the newspaper's small second-floor office. Writing in the style of a veteran sportswriter, the author describes the personalities, politics, and events during the week leading up to the debate.

But the focal point of the story takes place in the Nashua High School gymnasium where the debate was held. After a disagreement on who could speak, the debate moderator ordered Reagan's microphone be turned off leading Reagan to angrily declare, "I am paying for this microphone, Mr. Green!" For millions of Americans watching the debate that night, those forceful words changed their view of the floundering candidate. Reagan went on to win the election by a landslide.

One caveat. The author has strong views on several presidents including Donald Trump with which many readers may disagree. But whether you agree or disagree with the author's political views, his first-hand story of a turning point in presidential elections is worth reading.

The reason MAGA people are so upset over the Epstein is simple - they were convinced by conspiracy theorists that the Epstein files will show evidence of the so-called Deep State, which will, they say, be populated by numerous important Democrats. This information, if it were true, would rock the Democratic party in scandals for years, countless books, countless right-wing podcasters. And Trump, true to his character, even though he ran on the files release, is lying once again, making up his usual insane theories, calling it a hoax, a word that's worked beautifully for him in the past, except now, his criticism is leveled against his hard core, rock solid base, who find out, surprise surprise, he has betrayed you, like he's always betrayed everyone. They're pissed, like the rest of us, now.

Death threats come with the territory for political cartoonists and columnists. I've even had a few myself covering crime and politics in Chicago.

Somewhere along the line, journalists must - read MUST - do their jobs by some code of ethics. Most of the time that involves a responsibility to the community its newspaper or broadcast outlet serves.

That code must also serve the First Amendment, and tell the whole story - right, left and center.

And that's my sermonette for the day. ;-)
