Hi Jhanevia! What a pleasant surprise! Last I knew, you were in the service. The Army, was it? That’s so very kind of you.

I’m pretty sure the book is available on Amazon. Once you get it, just send me a message and I’ll come meet you somewhere and happily autographs it for you. That’s so nice. You were a very smart young lady. And I even remember where you sat!!! Haha.

I admire your dedication and compassion toward your students as evidenced in your motivation behind teaching Huck Finn. I would love to have been in that classroom with you to witness the transformation of young minds. Thanks for sharing.

I give you tremendous credit my friend for having the courage to teach “Huck”. It couldn’t been easy, but I can understand why you wanted to so badly,….that book’s greatness stands out in so many ways. Very Well Done!!!

Years ago, when Texas was just beginning to integrate public schools, I taught high school English in a Hispanic area of town as a brand new teacher. As a voracious reader from the minute I could take books home from school, I had always loved Twain. At the time, we each made our own curriculum. My main goal was to create readers out of my students. I chose A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court to teach my tenth graders because of the humor. My students were frequently getting into trouble in study hall for laughing uncontrollably when they read those assignments. The students loved the book and enjoyed the discussions.

That’s a wonderful note! I had to defend A Connecticut Yankee in my college English course with an intimidating professor. But it was one of the great classes in my life.

I taught Huckleberry Finn the next year, along with Scarlett Letter. At the time they were required. I doubt that they are required now.
