James Joyce was ridiculous, I think.

“Dubliners” is really terrific. I taught some stories from that for several years. Not so keen on his other stuff. Though I did find an unintentionally hilarious review of “Ulysses.”

I've never gotten over that Rhetoric & Research class that Sr. Marjorie taught using "The Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man." I still get the HeebieJeebies when I think of it. :-0)

I'll check your link out, though.

I don’t think I had that. I had her for Shakespeare and Great American novels or something like that. I remember I had to defend Mark Twain’s “A Connecticut Yankee” and she was attacking and I was defending. It was Tuesday- Thursday class and the argument between the two of us was so good and lively, we stayed over maybe 10-15 minutes. Really. Then as I’m getting you to leave, last one in the class, exhausted, she looks up at me and smiles. “Thanks, John,” she says. “I get one of those every three or four years and it keeps me going for another three or four years.” She was a tough little nut but a great teacher. I hated Shakespeare before her, since they did such a shitty job in high school. She opened the door. I ended up teaching Hamlet and Macbeth every year. I loved it and so, surprisingly, did the kids.
