Gotta love the ROD! OOH and the Jeff Beck Group. I grew up in Hollywood and in the 90's there was a cool club that had bands and hot stars hanging out. My girlfriend Nancy and I got pulled out of the line once to go in before the line, nice eh then upon walking in there's Jeff. I was shocked he was so short and looked so old but I was kinda blown away but not as much of a fanatic acting person. I left him alone but I watched him as he stared at the young blonde girls dancing on ecstasy. I am sure he took a few back to his hotel...

I love Rod. The guy is lovable. A couple years ago in Vegas I skipped Wilco to see Rod and I wasn’t disappointed. I’ve read a few of Greil’s books, I’ve listened to all of Rod’s albums. If I had to choose one it would be Rod.

I love his stuff on the Mercury label the best and of course The Faces. Atlantic Crossing and Gasoline Alley were great albums as well. It got way too commercial around the disco era and all of his albums after failed to grab a Rod lover like me.

An interesting piece John. Rod Stewart did have an incredible early career and his commercial success in the business is a result of his lasting ability to keep churning out a handful of pop hits. There are very few bands that exploded on the scene with their first release and maintain that level of success through five albums. Steely Dan would be one, Roxy Music would fit the bill and who could argue with Led Zep I, Led Zep II, Led Zep III, Led Zep IV and Houses of the Holy. Jefferson Airplane released five terrific albums that helped create the psychedelic era and then they became a drab commerical pop act. The Talking Heads and the Clash sustained their brilliance through five albums. Jethro Tull had seven albums that were all superb. The Moody Blues first album is not listenable as they had yet to find their sound but their next five albums were classics. U2 did not reach their brilliance until their third album but since then they have had an incredible run of top albums and a relevance on a sociopolitical level unmatched by any band or artist. Rod Stewart has maintained his longevity largely buoyed by his early success and a handful of other pop hits.
